Paperbark Tours is a small company with big ideas in a Big Country.

Our aim is to develop and conduct small group tours that get off the beaten track to places that may now or may soon be iconic, or should be, but have not yet been overrun by visitors and tourism operators.

Our approach is to seek out fascinating locations, interesting ways of getting there, unusual places to stay and lots of different activities and interactions along the way.

We strongly believe in getting to know what lies behind places and the people in them. We aim to provide our passengers with a lot of information and opportunities to meet people and learn more about the places we travel to.

We do not conduct camping tours, wild adventure tours or hard physical challenges. On the other hand, we do not conduct tours in large vehicles with on-board rest rooms, staying in standard country motels and travelling long distances each day to the next destination on the itinerary.

There are other operators who do one or both of these types of tours much more successfully than we could.

Our vision is to provide interesting experiences for people with a desire to get off the highway but not all the way to nowhere; those who want to learn about and get involved a little in the life of the country and its people as well as to visit places of great natural beauty; those who are adventurous enough to try something different but not daring enough to become uncomfortable or worse.

We are always keen to stay in touch while away from home and frankly we can't stand being without good communications and the ability to log on to the net, email family and friends and interact with others online. Our guess is that many of you are the same, so we have put a lot of effort into ensuring that this is possible as often as possible.

Although it's a continuous process of discovery and improvement, we are also determined to be sustainable in our approach to the use of resources, the disposal of waste, and the treatment of the land and its natural and human heritage.

Our itineraries follow paths we know, and are restricted to the South East of Australia, mainly within New South Wales and bits of Victoria and southern Queensland (even so, a mighty big piece of the globe!). If people like what we do and want us to do it elsewhere, and if we become sufficiently knowledgeable about other places, we might look at developing itineraries further afield.

In the meantime, we invite you to have a look at our current offerings in The Outback, Australia's Coastal Wilderness,

The Australian Alps,   Australia's World Heritage Gondwana Rainforests, Australia's First Goldfields and

The Barrington Tops & Myall Lakes.
