Your trip with Paperbark Tours is a different experience when it comes to accommodation.
We have largely avoided standard motels or hostels and have sought out unique and unusual places to stay – because it’s more interesting, and because it’s the best way for you to get close to and become immersed in the landscapes you’re travelling through and the storylines you’ll encounter.
Accommodation includes farm stays on working outback stations, heritage homesteads, underground B&Bs, converted shearers’ quarters, lighthouse keepers’ cottages, heritage guesthouses, modern eco-cabins, historic country pubs, seaside cabins and lakeside villas.
You’ll experience a variety of accommodation arrangements and standards. You won’t always have an en suite, and you’ll occasionally have to share bathroom facilities with a couple of fellow-travellers. On other occasions, though, you’ll enjoy 4-star standards with deluxe facilities, en suites and more.
You’ll be accommodated as far as possible on a twin share basis, but on a couple of occasions in more remote areas you might be required to share a room with a couple of others in the tour party. If you simply cannot abide such arrangements but still want to join the tour, we can usually make alternative arrangements at an extra cost.
On most tours there are a limited number of single supplements, where the additional cost represents the cost for sole use of a room that is levied on us by the accommodation provider. Where a single traveller is willing, we will strive to accommodate you with others of the same gender and similar age and interests. Where we are unable to do this, you’ll be provided with single accommodation at a twin-share rate.
We aim to provide you with a unique experience where you’ll remember long afterwards each of the places you slept in and each of the people you met – because they’re all different from each other and different from most places and people you’ve ever encountered before.
Of course, it’s always possible that alternative accommodation arrangements have to made at short notice on any particular tour and you will be made aware of such changes prior to departure or as soon as possible while on tour.
Meals
Part of a great trip is eating well and we do all we can to ensure you enjoy your meals on tour, which are varied and nutritious, featuring fresh ingredients locally sourced wherever possible.
Breakfasts usually consist of juices, cereals, toasts, fruit, tea and coffee; cooked breakfasts are sometimes available.
Morning and afternoon teas are almost always provided, consisting of fresh cakes, pastries and biscuits, and tea or coffee. Lunches are usually picnic spreads including cold meats, cheeses, tartlets, salads, rolls and fruit.
Dinners might be homestead meals provided by your hosts, dinners or BBQs cooked by your driver/guides, or meals in top-class restaurants and cafés.
Every tour includes at least one festive meal such as a traditional communal paella; other meals cooked by your tour hosts usually include three courses, and complimentary wines are sometimes served, although you'll be given the opportunity to purchase your own beverages wherever possible.
If you are vegetarian or gluten intolerant we can cater for you, but if you have specific dietary needs you may need to provide your own food. Please discuss any such requirements at the time of booking.
