Darling River
Bindara Station, via Menindee
Originally settled in 1849, Bindara Station became the centre of Joseph Dunne's million-acre Netley Station where he built the majestic red brick homestead (known as "Government House") in 1870 and where he employed 200 people and stocked over 100,00 sheep as well as cattle and horses. Progressively broken up after the two world wars, the river portion was bought by the Packer family in 1936 and in 1981 was sold to the current owners, who are restoring the homestead and outbuildings, replanting the orchards and gardens and maintaining an extensive collection of antique furniture, farm and household implements, art, photos and Aboriginal relics from the property. Still running beef cattle and growing lucerne hay, the property is run on eco technology using a mix of solar, wind, gas and bio fuels. Accommodation includes twin and double rooms (shared facilities) in The Cottage, The Bunkhouse (formerly the shearers' kitchen and dining rooms) and The Homestead. Your hosts:  Bill & Barb Arnold.
