South Coast Accommodation

Your tour of The South Coast will include the following types of accommodation. Specific accommodation on a tour is subject to change and you will be advised at time of booking or prior to departure of any changes.

Jervis Bay-Sussex Inlet
Kullindi Homestead Guesthouse

Kullindi Homestead was established in 1880 by the Ellmoos family, Danish immigrants who acquired a 40-acre parcel of waterfront land and established the first and for a while the only guesthouse between Port Hacking and Twofold Bay. This part of the property is still in the family four generations later.

Situated within the ACT’s Jervis Bay Territory, the Heritage-listed homestead is at the end of a delightful woodland drive through Booderee National Park – no through road, clubs, pubs or traffic noise.  The private spacious grounds of five acres are on the edge of Sussex Inlet, across 100 metres of water but otherwise quite remote from the modern village of the same name.

For the active there is cricket, badminton and croquet equipment – or you can just take a cane chair, a glass of wine and a book and relax under one of the hundred year-old pine trees.

The homestead enjoys a maximum of 20 guests in five self-contained apartments - although for your South Coast tour, your group will be a maximum of 12 and will enjoy exclusive use of the property.

The property could not be described as “luxurious” and in many ways is quite old-fashioned – but it is extremely comfortable and well kept. All units – a mix of doubles and twins – include bathrooms, kitchens and TV. There is also a delightful courtyard garden with bar and barbecue; full-length verandahs provide a wonderful place to sit and gaze at the water.

Despite being so close to Sussex Inlet, Kullindi revolves in its own orbit, a private place designed for those who appreciate no-frills, laid-back serenity.

In an age of instant entertainment delivered fast and furiously, Kullindi puts the emphasis back on earth’s simpler pleasures. Pelicans and cormorants grace the waterway along with ducks and the odd black swan; black cockatoos, butcher birds, kookaburras and honeyeaters lend their chorus from the trees. Native mammals include grazing kangaroos, shy antechinus, curious possums and bandicoots and echidnas.

For those of you looking for an alternative to bland and predictable motels and holiday units, Kullindi will delight you, transport you and serenade you with its simple, charming, gentle grace.
